"I’m now happy that my investments are in a safe place and I can continue to do the things I love."

I was introduced to Paul around six years ago and I got on with him immediately. I’d worked with advisers before but no one I was particularly keen on, but as soon as I met Paul, I felt he was someone I could work with.

Two years ago, my business partner and I sold our company and this brought a substantial amount of money into my family. At this point I needed advice on how to manage my pension and investments to secure my family’s future, so I naturally turned to Paul as someone I could trust for sound advice.

Putting you first

In the past when I’d spoken with advisers, I always felt that they pushed you down the route they wanted you to go down because it would give them the commission. You could never really tell if it was the right decision for you. But you don’t get that with Paul.

Also, because Paul is backed by St. James’s Place, you know you’re doing the right thing because they’re such a big, established organisation.

I just needed to know that what I was doing with my money was safe and that it was going to provide enough for me in retirement. I didn’t want to put it into anything too risky, I just needed to feel confident. Paul listened carefully to that and explained all the options, which made me feel completely comfortable in making the final decisions.

I love skiing and travelling and plan to do a lot more of this now that I have the time to do so. I’m now happy and confident that my investments are in a safe place and I can continue to do the things I love.

A proactive approach

When the pandemic hit in 2020 and the markets took a tumble, Paul rang me a number of times to chat it through with me. He explained what was happening and that everything would recover in the long term, which was very reassuring. It’s easy to chat when things are going well, but it’s more difficult when things aren’t looking so good.

As well as sorting out my pensions for me, Paul’s also helped me to deal with inheritance tax issues. My mother has become his client too and she’s created a legacy for her grandchildren, using the money that also came out of the business.

Honest, personal and trustworthy

My investments always perform pretty well, but it’s the personal approach as much as anything that I appreciate. Like most things in this world, it’s often the person you’re dealing with who makes the difference. That’s definitely true of Paul.

I’m not a financial whizz, I’m an engineer! But now I have complete peace of mind knowing my money is going to enable me to do everything I want to in my later years.

Past performance is not indicative of future performance. Fund values fluctuate and can fall as well as rise. You may get back less than you invested.
